The Evolution of Harry Kane- The 3-Season Wonder?

One season wonder they all cried regarding Harry Edward Kane’s sensational first full season at Spurs. A season in which he bagged 31 goals in just 51 games in his first full campaign at the club. Despite his exploits there have always been doubters for the man from Chingford, his struggles during the early part of campaign last season was relished by media and opposition fans alike, baying for him to flop. . I even witnessed some Spurs fans start to believe into this ‘one-season wonder’ tag that he was branded with from the moment he started to have some success. But surely he cant be a 3-season wonder?!

Kane was always prolific at youth level and I recall thinking he was going to be a revelation when I saw him play on loan at Leyton Orient back in the 2010-11 season, at the age of 17 where he scored 5 goals in 17 appearances at the London club. He would later score his first professional goal for Spurs against Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Cup in 2011, after having suffering early adversity after having a penalty saved on his full debut against Hearts earlier in the competition. This goal would prove to be the first of many in his Tottenham career. Later that season he would enjoy a successful loan spell at Millwall and then followed by a loan spell the to Norwich in the English Premier League, however unfortunately a broken metatarsal in just his second game cut the spell short. His final loan spell was for Leicester after recovering from his injury, which wouldn’t prove to be overly successful and just started 5 games for the East Midlands club. This demonstrates that it hasn’t always been successful for Harry, he has also experienced adversity in his prolific career so far, primarily in the 2012/13 season.

2013/14 season would be a season of first’s for Kane, a first goal at White Hart Lane against Hull City and a first Premier League goal against Sunderland, which would be a first of three successive games scoring. The signs of things to come! The next season would bring about the one season wonder tag. A goal in each game against AEL Limassol, followed by a first professional hat-trick against Asteras Tripoli would be the catalyst for a memorable goal scoring season. A first Premier League hat-trick against Leicester, heartbreak in the League Cup final, a place in the PFA team of the year and a remarkable 31 goals this season, followed by 2 more successful seasons.

With 81 goals in 128 games and 6 hat-tricks since the start of 2014/15 season, that tag has well and truly been banished. However every time he scores a goal, the pictures of Kane in an Arsenal shirt circle around social media or the statements that it was only a tap-in or against a team not in the top-6. But in reality he’s one of the best strikers about and I wouldn’t swap the way he suits our team for anyone.
